My Artwork.
Artist Statement
My work is deeply influenced by my Mexican heritage and my studies as a graduate student. Through this series, I explore the theme of death, blending cultural elements with personal reflections. Embracing the subject of mortality, I aim to create my own mythology—one that allows me to engage with death in a way that feels both approachable and transformative.
I juxtapose the traditionally heavy subject of death with bright, bold colors and geometric shapes to 'lighten the mood.' In doing so, I infuse a sense of playfulness and visual intrigue into what is often an uncomfortable conversation. This playful approach represents my personal acceptance of mortality, creating a space where death can be explored without fear, but with a sense of curiosity and even joy.
My works are acrylic on canvas, pastel drawings, and acrylic on wood. They are a reflection of my attempt to find meaning in the delicate balance between life and death. By confronting mortality through this unique lens, I connect more deeply to the value of life, expressing both reverence and liberation through my art.
